Marikina has already surpassed its herd immunity target, according to Mayor Marcy Teodoro on Monday.
The city has now vaccinated around 410,000 individuals, way higher than its herd immunity target of 370,000 people, Teodoro told DZRH.
"Lagpas na tayo sa target na herd immunity na itinalaga ng Department of Health," the mayor said.
(We surpassed the target herd immunity designated by the Department of Health.)
The city has now begun inoculating minors aged 12 to 17 years old and is vaccinating 3,000 minors every day, according to Teodoro.
(If we can do this, our target of 110,000 will be finished by December. We need to protect minors because they are also going out of their homes.)
In a message to Marikeños, Teodoro urged his constituents to work together against COVID-19, citing its benefits to the economy. He also reminded them to continue practicing prescribed safety protocols against the virus.
"Sana po'y magtulong-tulong tayo laban sa COVID," he said.
(I hope we work together against COVID. It is a big deal that we are reopening the economy and removing age restriction but I hope we don't forget cautiousness and practicing minimum public health standards.)
