The Marikina City government raised the first alarm over the Marikina River as the water level reached over 15 meters on Thursday, July 27.

In its latest update, Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) said the water has reached 15.3 meters as of 7 AM.

The rise in the water level in Marikina was attributed to the continued heavy rains due to Typhoon Egay and the Southwest Monsoon or habagat.

According to Marikina City Rescue, all Mangghan floodways are now open.

Residents living near the river are advised to be prepared for evacuation as possible flooding threatens their houses.

Typhoon Egay has weakened over Luzon Strait, West of Batanes, and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning or Thursday afternoon, PAGASA said in its 5 AM update.

But yellow rainfall warning is still raised over Marikina and other cities in Metro Manila due to Typhoon Egay and habagat.

The state weather bureau noted that areas under yellow rainfall warning may experience light to moderate rains ranging 7.5 to 15 mm and flooding is possible in flood-prone areas.
