Authorities destroyed an estimated P6.9 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants during a high-impact eradication operation in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, on Thursday, June 27, 2025.

The operation, led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 2 – Cagayan Provincial Office, in coordination with multiple police units, resulted in the uprooting and burning of approximately 34,500 marijuana plants spread over a 2,300-square-meter plantation.

The joint operation lasted from 4:30 a.m. to 11:25 p.m.

Authorities say the plantation is part of a persistent problem in the remote mountainous areas of Kalinga, known for illegal marijuana cultivation.

"This collaborative approach is vital to sustaining momentum in the fight against illegal drugs and ensuring safer communities throughout the region," PDEA Region 2 said in a statement.

PDEA officials noted that no individuals were arrested during the operation, but an investigation is ongoing to identify the cultivators.
