Marikina Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro described the cancellation of his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the position of House of Representatives member for the 1st District of Marikina City as a form of "political maneuvering."
According to Teodoro, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) acknowledged the transfer of his voter registration, but surprisingly, its ruling on his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) was in contrast.
The mayor also maintained that he has long been residing in the 1st district of the city, citing his career as a councilor and congressman from the same district as evidence.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, it was stated that Teodoro's camp plans to file a motion for reconsideration within five days of receiving a copy of the resolution, as the decision is not yet final and executory.
Teodoro asserts that politics is the driving force behind the petition seeking his disqualification from the 2025 midterm elections.
Senator Koko Pimentel, one of the petitioners and a rival of Teodoro, earlier expressed surprise when the mayor filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the 1st district, as they had previously discussed that he would run for the 2nd district.
The COMELEC First Division canceled Teodoro's Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for allegedly committing material misrepresentation by declaring that he had been a resident of the 1st district for at least one year.
