President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday said that he directed the local government units (LGUs) to prepare for the onslaught of upcoming Super Typhoon Mawar.
“There is a chance na hindi lang Northern Luzon, Visayas, baka Mindanao pati [ang maapektuhan]. Kaya’t we have already warned the LGUs to prepare in case of heavy rains and flooding. So ang aming ginagawa ay leave it to the LGUs right now to make the call kung ano yung gagawin nila,” Marcos told reporters in an interview.
He said that the national government has been preparing for most of this week, and reliefs had been sent to the affected regions mostly in Northern Luzon.
Marcos said he assured the LGUs that the national government is ready to assist.
“We are in constant contact with them para makita nating kung what is the situation in their place kapag nakadaan na ang bagyo, kapag natapos na ang mga ulan. We are in constant contact with them also to find out kung ano ang kailangan nila at ano ang nangyari sa lugar nila,” the President said.
The National Government along with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Philippine Navy (PN) have been preparing to address the effects of the super typhoon.
According to the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Super Typhoon Mawar or Betty is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 pm.
It was last located 1,725 km east of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 215 km/h and is moving west-northwestward at 25 km/h.
