The youngest son of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has been introduced as "special assistant" to House Speaker Martin Romualdez during a meeting with the minority bloc last week.
On a Facebook post, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan (4Ps Party-list) shared photos of the meeting with Speaker Romualdez, presidential son Vincent 'Vinny' Marcos, and members of the minority bloc.
"During the first Minority Bloc meeting, the agenda was centered to our priority measures for the year 2023, we are also delighted to have welcomed the President’s youngest son, Vinny Marcos who joined us this meeting. Thank you for visiting us!" he wrote.
Among the photos in Libanan's Facebook post show's the younger Marcos seated behind a nameplate identifying him as special assistant to the speaker.
While it is yet to be confirmed if the position is official, Libanan said the younger Marcos was "designated" and that the "Speaker merely asked us to brief the young man on the role and work of the House minority bloc."
Romualdez is the first cousin of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He was the majority leader.
According to Libanan, Vincent "worked as a software engineer in Singapore before he returned home to help his father in the 2022 elections."
Marcos' eldest son Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos is the current senior deputy majority leader.
The President earlier denied reports that he is grooming Sandro to be the next president.
“We’re not grooming him for anything. He is grooming himself. He has decided on this career in politics and he will handle it the way he does,” he said in an interview on Monday, Jan 23.
Marcos also clarified that there were no plans of putting his son in the chief executive position.
