President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Monday bared his plans to revive the talks regarding setting up nuclear power plants in the Philippines.
During his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos stated his plans for renewable energy and making energy more affordable by putting up a nuclear power plant in the country along with, wind, solar, and hydropower sources.
He also mentioned the International Atomic Energy Agency and his willingness to comply with all their regulations. Marcos added that its regulations have been strengthened since the 2011 incident at Fukushima.
The President believes it's high time to take advantage of the new technologies that developed in putting up a nuclear power plant that in his own words which 'allows smaller scale modular nuclear plants and other derivations."
He mentioned the Public-Private Partnership or PPP and said will play a vital part in his future endeavors in terms of funding for at the moment the funding is limited.
“We must build new power plants. We must take advantage of technology that is now available, especially in renewable energy. I believe that is time to reexamine our strategy towards building nuclear power plants in the Philippines," Marcos said.
