President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. underscored on Wednesday that valor is not just about strength and determination in the face of adversity, but also encompasses small acts of compassion, generosity, and kindness, as the nation observed the 83rd anniversary of Araw ng Kagitingan.
"In honoring our forebears, may we recognize that valor is not solely about strength and resolve in the face of adversity but also about small acts of compassion, generosity, and kindness that creates meaningful ripples of positive change in our communities," Marcos said in his official statement.
The President remarked that the nation pays tribute to the courageous heroes of the Battle of Bataan, as well as all Filipinos who demonstrated steadfast bravery and patriotism during World War II.
He pointed out that their inspiring legacy lives on, motivating others to protect the nation and build a country that honors their sacrifices.
Marcos highlighted that this year's commemoration reflects the Philippines as a "cradle of heroes and heroines"—a nation of noble men and women who, regardless of the risks, selflessly gave their lives for the love of their country.
Furthermore, the President stated that as the country faces challenges, everyone should be inspired to follow the example of these heroes by supporting initiatives that improve the lives of fellow Filipinos.
"Through acts of genuine service and self-offering to the nation, we can prove that we are not only made of the same noble stocks as our noteworthy ancestors but also the rightful heirs of their heroic legacy and the faithful successors of their struggle to build a strong, secure, and prosperous Bagong Pilipinas," he added.
As part of the commemoration, Marcos led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mount Samat National Shrine in Pilar, Bataan.
