President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in San Francisco, California, in November, which will be his third visit to the US since becoming the Philippines’ leader in 2022.

Marcos is expected to push the country’s energy security interests, specifically increasing the number of power sources and promoting the use of clean energy.

During a courtesy call with the US-ASEAN Business Council at Malacañang yesterday, the President said that he is looking forward to joining his fellow APEC leaders in California later this year.

According to Marcos, he is particularly interested in long-term land, water, and ocean solutions that are in line with climate change goals, and he supports efforts to transform the Philippines into an upper middle-income country by 2025.

He went on to say that such technologies are viewed as safer and more efficient than more traditional nuclear power generation designs.

Marcos also emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to shift electricity sources away from traditional fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources.

Furthermore, the President wishes to see stronger collaborations between the public and private sectors in mobilizing financial resources for investments in vital infrastructure, research and development, and human capital development.
