President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expresses gratitude to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their continuous support and timely assistance to the Philippines amid the recent unrest caused by Mayon Volcano in Albay province.
During a courtesy visit at the Malacañan Palace, President Marcos personally thanked UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi, acknowledging the UAE's prompt aid provided to the victims of the volcano eruption.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian received more than 50 tons of humanitarian assistance from the UAE government, aimed at helping the residents affected by Mayon Volcano.
President Marcos is scheduled to visit Albay today to meet with and extend assistance to the affected residents in these challenging times caused by the volcano's unrest.
During his visit, the President plans to inform the residents about the generous and timely support from the UAE government, emphasizing the significance of their assistance.
UAE government officials assured President Marcos of their willingness to provide assistance to the Philippines and its people, not only during difficult times but also during prosperous periods.
The President expressed his gratitude for their generosity and emphasized the Philippines' commitment to reciprocate the UAE government's kindness to the Filipino people.
“Unfortunately, the Philippines falls victim not only to volcano explosions, but of course to typhoons, and earthquakes. We are in that part of the world where we are vulnerable. We are hoping that the activity of the volcano will start to calm. But we cannot say that for sure, but we are watching it closely,” Marcos said.
