President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. congratulated King Charles III on his coronation and wished him a long and happy reign.

He issued the congratulatory message on Monday following his attendance at Britain's biggest and historical ceremonial event at Westminster Abbey, London, on Saturday, May 6.

"May his Coronation signify the start of a new chapter of peace, progress, and prosperity for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth," Marcos said in a statement posted on his social media accounts.

The President also congratulated the second wife of King Charles, Camilla who was crowned as Queen Consort.

Marcos said that it was a "great honor" for him to represent the Philippines in the historical event.

The President also shared that he got a chance to speak with King Charles III, who asked for his friend, former first lady Imelda Marcos, during a reception held the night before the coronation.

"[He] recounted fond memories of the time they shared together," Marcos added.

Marcos and his wife First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos were among the over 100 Heads of State and other visiting dignitaries invited to the said reception.

King Charles III was crowned as Great Britain's 40th Monarch on Saturday, May 6.

The former Prince of Wales automatically ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year.
