President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed his intention to pursue improved relations between the Philippines and New Zealand.
Marcos seeks to strengthen tourism and trade between the two countries, which is why he hopes for the re-establishment of direct flights, reports Leth Narciso for DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
He welcomed New Zealand's recently designated resident ambassador Dr. Catherine Rosemary McIntosh in Malacañang on Tuesday and expressed that many Filipinos desire to go to their country. He believes the people in NZ would be interested in likewise visiting the Philippines.
According to Marcos, the two countries should push for such a partnership for economic transformation.
He mentioned there were plans to construct new airports and promote accessibility to small airports in the country.
“We really are quite full. We need two new airports. We are in the process of building them, but for now, I think the way to go is to provide access to the smaller regional airports, which are close to or within the tourist destination,” said the President.
