President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who chairs the National Innovation Council (NIC), authorized the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) 2023-2032, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Saturday.

In a news release, the PCO said that the NIASD 2023-2032 outlines the country’s plan to improve “innovation governance” and establish a “dynamic innovation ecosystem”.

The National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) or the Republic Act NO. 11293 is an act adopting innovation as a vital component of the country's development policies to drive inclusive development, promote the growth and national competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises, appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes.

“It facilitates collaboration through active, reliable, and useful platforms, and provides innovation actors with the necessary facilities and resources to transform their ideas into innovative products and services. Further, it connects the innovator-entrepreneur to potential investors and funders,” PCO said.

This comes after the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie Edillon presented the rationale and features of the NIASD on Friday during the 5th NIC meeting.

“The future, even the near future, is expected to be volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Developing a dynamic innovation ecosystem is critical to achieving our AmBisyon Natin 2040 of a matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay for all Filipinos,” Edillon noted.

According to the PCO, the NIASD characterizes a dynamic innovation ecosystem that fosters a pervasive culture of innovation driven by market demands.
