President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Friday said he would appoint the next full-time Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) only after his three goals have been accomplished.

Marcos is presently the Agriculture Secretary. He has been sitting in the position for over a year now.

“Ang aking hangarin para sa DA, kapag iniwanan ko ang DA at that time, we will have systems in place. So that we can guarantee the food supply in the Philippines, and guarantee the prices are affordable, and that our farmers make a good living,” he told the media during an interview after the turnover ceremony of 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer from China held in Valenzuela.

“Hangga’t matapos natin ‘yun ay I supposed, you have to put up with me as the DA Secretary,” Marcos added.

The President noted that the prices of commodities are beginning to stabilize and that there has been an increase in production in rice, pork, fisheries, and livestock.

“So, ayan ‘yung aking mga ginagawa ngayon para naman hindi tayo umabot sa krisis na sitwasyon kagaya ng nadatnan natin after the pandemic,” he said.

Aside from his three goals, Marcos also said that he also wants to make “very important structural changes” first in the agriculture department before he taps an official to lead the agriculture department.

He jokingly said that nobody in the agriculture department wanted to volunteer as the next Secretary.

“Ayaw nila akong paalisin,” he added.
