President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, the widow of slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, as well as the witnesses who testified in a Senate hearing about violent incidents in the province, met in Malacanang Palace last week.
Garafil, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla were among the government officials who attended the dinner meeting, based on the photos posted on Degamo's Facebook page.
Degamo's widow thanked Marcos in her tweet for the "very warm welcome" and for demonstrating his interest in their province by consenting to the meeting, which she said was arranged "at the last minute."
She went on to say that she couldn't believe the President was paying attention to the Senate hearings and was looking forward to the next one.
She promised Marcos that they would only seek his assistance if they truly needed it, adding, "We will not abuse the kindness of our beloved President."
Meanwhile, Degamo signed her post "The Justice Fighters of Negros Oriental," referring to the people who spoke about violence in the province before the Senate committee on public order and hazardous narcotics, which is chaired by Sen. Ronald dela Rosa.
