The Filipinas achieved history by defeating New Zealand 1-0 after a match played in Wellington, New Zealand.
As a result of the Philippine goalie Olivia McDaniel's tenacious defense throughout the game, New Zealand was unable to score a single goal.
Manila striker Sarina Bolden added a header in the 24th minute off a cross from Sarah Eggesvik to give her team a 1-0 lead.
"It means everything to us … We put our head down, we came in focused, we had a goal in mind and we achieved it. We couldn't have asked for better," said McDaniel in an interview after the game.
