President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. tasked the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) with increasing the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for public school teachers.
The government targets increasing the SRI for about 1,011,800 DepEd staff members from P18,000 to P20,000.
Both the DBM and DepEd were instructed to identify budgetary measures that would allow for the SRI increase for DepEd personnel while ensuring fiscal responsibility is maintained.
“Teachers are special category. So we have to handle that individually,” Marcos said to reporters on Tuesday.
The SRI is a financial incentive provided each year to government employees to commend their hard work and commitment to public service.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara described the directive as a morale booster for the nation’s educators, who play a crucial role in shaping the future of Filipino learners.
Moreover, more information on the timeline and implementation of the increased SRI will be released once the DBM and DepEd finalize the necessary funding arrangements.
