President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sent his condolences to the family of former Sen. Rodolfo "Pong" Biazon, who died on Independence Day, calling him "a distinguished public servant."
In his statement, Marcos said the late senator had distinguished himself among his peers by his leadership and statesmanship as both a military man and an experienced lawmaker.
He went on to remark that the late Senator Biazon was well-liked by his colleagues and the general public for being opinionated, conscientious, and virtuous in the pursuit of his mission and advocacies.
Biazon was a key figure in the People Power Revolution of 1986, which resulted in the deposition of then-President Ferdinand Marcos, the current president's father.
Previously, as a Davao City marine, Biazon was persuaded to protect then-presidential candidate Corazon Aquino during her civil disobedience campaign.
Biazon died on Monday, June 12th, after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
