President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months, effective tomorrow, February 7, the day of his scheduled retirement.
The Presidential Communication Office (PCO) noted that a memorandum dated February 4 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that Marcos approved Marbil’s extension in government service beyond the compulsory retirement age of 56.
Meanwhile, the memorandum was addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
The country’s top police official assumed command on April 1, 2024, as the 30th Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991.
His past roles include leading the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership, serving as the regional director of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), and heading the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
Previously, President Marcos indicated that Marbil’s term could be extended, citing the need to maintain stability ahead of the 2025 elections.
