President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday congratulated newly-inaugurated United States President Donald Trump, expressing his eagerness to "work closely" with the new US administration.

In a social media post, Marcos also extended his congratulations to the American people for their peaceful transition of leadership.

"Congratulations to POTUS Donald Trump and to the American people on another peaceful transfer of power in their Nation's nearly 250-year history. I look forward to working closely with you and your administration," Marcos said.

"The strong and lasting PH-US alliance will continue to uphold our shared vision of prosperity and security in the region," he added.

On November 19, Marcos and Trump held a phone conversation, with Marcos describing the call as "very friendly" and "very productive."

Furthermore, Marcos expressed the country's desire to continue strengthening the bond between the two nations, describing it as a deeply rooted relationship that has endured for a long time.

The United States is viewed as one of Manila's enduring allies, especially in maintaining stability within the Indo-Pacific region.

Philippine Ambassador to the US, Jose Manuel Romualdez, represented President Marcos at the inauguration.
