COMELEC junks appeals to disqualify Marcos Jr
by John Dexter Tilo10 May 2022

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Tuesday dismissed all Motions for Reconsideration seeking to disqualify presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. from the 2022 elections.

In a consolidated decision released after election day, COMELEC said that it denies the motions for reconsideration from Akbayan, Abubakar Mangelen, and Bonifacio Ilagan.

It stated that the petitioners only reiterated their previous assertions and failed to raise new matters that could reverse the decisions.

"A careful review of the Motions for Reconsideration reveals that they failed to raise new matters that would warrant the reversal of the Assailed Resolution," said COMELEC in its decision.

"Stripped of non-essentials, the instant Motions for Reconsideration merely contain rehash of Petitioners' assertions and arguments before the Commissioner," it added.

Meanwhile, the COMELEC en banc also junked the Motion for Partial Reconsideration filed by Fr. Christian Buenafe that seeks to cancel the certificate of candidacy filed by Marcos Jr.

The decision came as Marcos Jr. continues to lead the partial and unofficial tally of votes for presidency, with over 30 million votes as of Tuesday afternoon.
