President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. believes that openness with the media is the most effective way to fight fake news, which is why he has committed to being more accessible to the media in the coming year.
During the Malacañang Media Fellowship, Marcos admitted that their release of news and opinions on various issues is occasionally organized or systematic to minimize mistakes.
However, he stated that they will try to be less structured so that important issues can be addressed and explained more clearly.
“Let's start in the new year, we'll try to make things less structured and I’ll make myself more accessible to you [the media]," said Marcos.
Marcos further added that they might overlook certain things if not carefully considered. Therefore, he intends to leave it to the wisdom and experience of journalists to determine which issues are important and which are not.
The President reaffirmed the vital role of the TV, radio, print, and online industries in delivering accurate news and steering the public away from fake news and disinformation.
Moreover, he maintains that the key defense against misinformation and fake news on social media, particularly in the upcoming elections, lies in building credibility through transparency and honesty.
