President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. marked the 161st birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio by encouraging the Filipino nation to help liberate the country from hunger, corruption, and other societal challenges.
"Today, we honor the life and heroism of the Supremo of the Katipunan and Hero of the Masses who organized and inspired his fellow Filipinos to rise against tyranny and break the chains of oppression," Marcos said in his official message.
Marcos highlighted that the courage displayed by the revolutionary hero ignited the flames of the Philippine Revolution, ultimately uniting the nation and inspiring many to sacrifice their lives for the country's fight against colonizers.
He also urged the public to honor the revolutionary hero's legacy of sacrifice, which he and our forebears demonstrated.
The President stated that the nation owes Bonifacio and his fellow revolutionaries a debt of gratitude for awakening the Filipino sense of nationalism, strengthening identity, and inspiring the spirit of self-determination.
"Gat Andres may have been long gone, but his fight carries on. His courage, selflessness, and determination continue to inspire us all to strive for greatness in our shared task of nation-building," said Marcos.
He added that with patriotism, discipline, and love for one another as guiding principles, everyone should work towards building a better nation where Filipinos can live in genuine peace, progress, and harmony.
