President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. requested Indonesian President Joko Widodo to re-examine the case of Mary Jane Veloso, a convicted overseas Filipino worker during the 42nd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

Marcos mentioned Veloso's case while walking with Widodo at one of the events.

"Sabi ko, the best that we can do I supporse is for the Indonesia authorities to reexamine the case para naman as favor to the Philippines. 'Yun lang ang napag-usapan namin. Not much more than that," Marcos said.

He informed Widodo that the Philippine government is working on the case and respects the laws of Indonesia, especially in terms of illegal drug charges.

Marcos earlier said that the national government will continue to appeal for the pardon of Veloso, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who is facing death row over alleged drug trafficking in Indonesia for almost 13 years.

"But the Indonesian answered us that this is the law. Ito 'yung batas dito sa Indonesia kaya't kailangan natin ipagpatupad 'yan. And they have already given us postponement... but that doesn't mean it's done," Marcos earlier said in an interview.

Veloso was arrested in Yogyakarta in 2010 after allegedly carrying a suitcase packed with more than 2.6 kilograms of heroin and was sentenced to death the same year.

In September last year, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) requested Indonesia to pardon Veloso.
