President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday, September 4 to attend the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits from September 5-7.
Boarded on presidential plane, the President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos landed in Jakarta at around 6:59 PM.
They were welcomed by Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina Jamoralin, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN Hjayceelyn Quintana, Philippine Defense Attaché in Indonesia Col. Emmanuel Canilla, and Police Attaché in Indonesia Police Col. Donald Madamba.
Marcos is expected to promote the country's interest in the summit, which includes rule-based international order such as the South China Sea, strengthening food security, calling for climate justice, tapping the potential of the digital and creative economies, protecting migrant workers in crisis situations, as well as combating trafficking in persons.
The Chief Executive will be attending the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the ASEAN-US Summit, and the ASEAN-Canada Summit.
He will also participate in the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 18th East Asia Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, and the 30th ASEAN-UN Summit
“My administration will continue to ensure that our constructive engagements with ASEAN, our Dialogue Partners, and stakeholders will serve our national interest and the well-being of the Filipino people,” he said.
The 43rd Summit and Related Summits has for its theme, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”
ASEAN, a political and economic union, is composed of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia..
