The daughter of former Senate President Tito Sotto III has been appointed by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. to head the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
On Thursday, Diorella "Lala" Sotto-Antonio took oath before Marcos in Malacañang. She will be succeeding lawyer Jeremiah Jaro in the MTRCB post.
"Maraming salamat po sa inyong pagtitiwala Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa pagtatalaga sa akin bilang kinatawan o Chairperson ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)," Sotto said in a Facebook post.
Sotto-Antonio served as Quezon City councilor for 18 years. She ran in the recent elections as the second nominee of the AGAP Party list, which represents farmers. However, the group only won one seat in the 19th Congress.
Her father, meanwhile, thanked Marcos for the trust in Sotto-Antonio.
"I believe she will do well given her background,” the former Senate President said. “Besides, she has two excellent women former chairpersons to emulate, Sen. Grace Poe and Congresswoman Rachel Arenas.”
On the other hand, former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and former Solicitor General Jose Calida have also been sworn in as the heads of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Commission on Audit, respectively.
The following officials also took their oaths before the President on Thursday night:
- Cesar Chavez - Undersecretary, Department of Transportation
- Emerald Ridao - Undersecretary, Office of the Press Secretary
- Franz Imperial - Undersecretary, Office of the President
- Honey Rose Mercado - Undersecretary, Presidential Management Staff
- Bianca Cristina Cardenas Zobel - Social Secretary
- Gerald Baria - Undersecretary, Office of the President
The Office of the Press Secretary also said that President Marcos held a meeting with energy department officials.
