President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the new Ombudsman of the Republic of the Philippines, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
Remulla replaces former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, who retired in July.
"As Ombudsman, Remulla is expected to uphold, transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and ensure that justice is administered fairly and efficiently," the Palace said in a statement. `
"There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses. Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable," the statement added.
Remulla has served as Justice Secretary since June 2022.
He will now serve a seven-year term as Ombudsman, or until 2032.
Remulla previously served as the representative of the 7th District of Cavite from 2004 to 2013 and again from 2019 to 2022.
He is a member of the prominent Remulla political family in Cavite.
Remulla earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, a pre-law course, from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he also obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1987.
