President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Monday said that his administration will launch a media literacy campaign, as he cited that the Philippines is plagued by disinformation and misinformation.
Marcos praised the Freedom of Information (FOI) program at the 14th International Conference of Information Commissioners, saying that the said program has greatly advanced the campaign against misinformation and disinformation in the Philippines.
He stated that the media and information literacy campaign will be launched in digital, multimedia, and youth-focused to combat misinformation and disinformation.
According to a recent Reuters Institute survey, influencers are becoming more popular as a news source among young people than journalists.
The survey also showed that more Filipinos are turning to social media platforms for news, particularly the Chinese short-form video application TikTok.
