Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial revealed that he suffered an injury prior to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

Marcial divulged his injury after his lose at the hands of Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan on Tuesday, July 30 (Paris Time), put an early end to the campaign of the Filipino boxer in the men's 80 kilograms boxing event.

"Not many people know but behind the scene, I sustained an injury two weeks leading up to this match that prevented me to move and do my usual training," Marcial said on Wednesday, July 31, in a Facebook post.

Marcial said that the injury also affected his mental strength and overall performance.

However, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist stressed that he gave his all during the fight, and he has no excuses for his early exit in the Paris Games.

"I’m devastated and at loss for words. It’s a tough loss, I do not know how to explain this loss to all the Filipinos who believed in me and supported me. It’s a difficult place to be in, no one really prepares to lose," Marcial said.

"But like I said there’s no excuses. The people know that it has always been my absolute dream to win the gold medal at the Olympics not just for myself, for my family, but most especially, for the Philippines," he added.

While the Filipino boxer did not expound on the details regarding his injury, his wife, Princess Marcial, said that he suffered a rib injury that hindered his training for two weeks.
