Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao has shared that he is “finalising” a deal to face World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Rolly Romero in the ring.
“We are negotiating and finalising,” Pacquiao told reporters in a “Thrilla in Manila” press conference in Quezon City.
After a four-year hiatus from professional boxing, Pacquiao squared off against World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight top dog Mario Barrios, whom he very nearly toppled. The Filipino boxing legend was, however, undeterred by the draw.
Although Barrios and Pacquiao agreed to run it back, the latter’s adviser, Sean Gibbons, said that a match with Romero would be “an unbelievably fun fight and one hell of a promotion,” he told a boxing news outlet.
This December, “PacMan” will turn 47. Boxers typically retire by their mid-30’s, when they begin to show signs of physical decline. Despite this, Barrios described Pacquiao as “explosive, tricky” following their bout.
