A Manila court on Monday dropped the murder charges filed against former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam, in connection with the killing of former Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III in 2019.
The Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 42 also acquitted Marco Martin Cam, Sandra's son.
In an interview with the media, Cam's lawyer said Manila RTC Branch cleared the accused because "the prosecution failed to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt."
The slain Batuan vice mayor's son, meanwhile, expressed disappointment with the court's decision.
"Buhay ng tatay ko 'yung nakasalalay dito. Hindi ko pa nakukuha 'yung hustisya. Of course, maga-apela kami," he told reporters in an ambush interview.
The court also dropped charges against five others, namely Nelson Cambaya, Junel Gomez, Juanito De Luna, Bradford Solis, and Rigor dela Cruz.
On October 9, 2019, Yuson, who was having breakfast in an eatery in Sampaloc, Manila, was shot dead.
Lalain Yuson, the Batuan, Masbate vice mayor's wife, accused Sandra of being the mastermind behind the killings.
She earlier said that their son won the mayoral race against Sandra's son Martin in the 2019 local election.
The said defeat was seen as the motive for ordering Yuson III's killing.
The former PSCO official earlier denied these allegations.
