Philippines' Tachiana Keizha Mangin put an end to the 28-year long gold medal drought of the country in the World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

The 16-year Filipina old taekwondo jin ruled the female -49 kilograms category after she bested Kim Hyang Gi of South Korea, 2-1, on Friday, October 4.

Mangin secured a spot in the gold-medal match after an injury forced her opponent in the semifinals, Lamprini Anna Asimaki of Greece, to withdraw.

The Filipina also bested Habiba Wael Emerah of Egypt, 2-0, in the quarterfinals, and Habiba Wael Emerah of Thailand. 2-0, in the round of 16

Prior the 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in South Korea, the Philippines last bagged a gold medal in the competition when Alex Borromeo claimed the top spot in the male -47 kilogram category in 1996 in Spain.
