The Garden of Life Park cemetery is set to demolish old graves by November 15, according to the local government unit (LGU) of Mandaluyong City.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the tombstones around the vicinity being stepped on by visitors had deceased loved ones buried inside them, with many of these being children or babies.
The Mandaluyong LGU asked families to take the remains of their deceased member as they continue their ongoing renovation of the cemetery while adding a crematorium and columbarium in the area.
Around 1,536 names of the dead were posted in front of the place, and a visitor named Caloy Pascual told DZRH in an interview that his deceased family member was one of the names included in the list.
“[Malapit] lang kasi samin yung simbahan, doon na namin dadalhin yung buto. Kanya-kanya nang hanap kasi pag hindi mo inasikaso to, ilalagay na to sa mga buto [at] sama-sama na sa ibang mga patay, sa isang lugar na lang ititirik,” Pascual said.
The Mandaluyong City Public Information Office released the names whose graves will be removed by November 15 as part of the redevelopment project of the Garden of Life Park.
