An armed man died after being shot by responding police in Palo, Leyte.
According to Leyte Provincial Director PCol. Dionisio Apas Jr., a concerned citizen had called police about a man purportedly under the influence of alcohol, armed with a bolo knife, and threatening passers-by on Tuesday evening on Domingo Street, Barangay Sta. Cruz, reported RH Jimmy Angay-angay.
When police arrived at the scene, they attempted to disarm the man. However, he charged at one of them.
The officer fired a warning shot before shooting the suspect, who reportedly did not halt.
The suspect was rushed by the Palo MDRRMO to the Governor Benjamin T. Romualdez General Hospital and Schistosomiasis Center for immediate medical attention, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
“The LPPO assures the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway and reaffirms its commitment to the preservation of life, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law,” Apas said in a press statement following the incident.
