Malacañang responded sharply on Wednesday to Vice President Sara Duterte’s remark that the Philippines appears to be heading 'to the dumpster,' stressing her obligations as the country’s second-highest official in light of her extended absence.

In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro hit back at Duterte’s claim that Filipinos have lost hope, suggesting that the Vice President is the one missing from the Philippines and unaware of the government’s efforts.

Castro countered Duterte's statement, asserting that the country could be heading in the wrong direction if absentee leaders like her were in control.

The Palace official remarked that the country would face problems if it has a President who spends much of their time abroad and does not carry out their duties in the Philippines.

Moreover, Castro reminded the Vice President of her obligations, emphasizing that she should be aware of her duties.

"Sabi nga natin, ang Pangulo natin na sinasabi niya na mukhang wala na tayong pag-asa, nasa Pilipinas, nagtatrabaho, araw-araw may inaanunsiyo tayong good news, pero ang Bise Presidente, nasaan?" she added.
