Malacañang has declared Friday, January 23, 2026, a special non-working day in the Province of Bulacan to commemorate the anniversary of the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
Under Proclamation No. 1122, signed on December 23, 2025, by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the declaration aims to give Bulakenyos full opportunity to participate in and enjoy the celebration marking a historic milestone in Philippine nationhood.
The First Philippine Republic was inaugurated on January 23, 1899, at the Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, with Emilio Aguinaldo as its first president—an event widely regarded as a cornerstone of the country’s democratic history.
The special non-working day applies across the province, allowing government offices, private establishments, schools, and communities to join official rites, cultural programs, and local commemorative activities. Essential services, however, are expected to continue operations as necessary.
Local officials also anticipate increased participation in heritage events and tourism activities, particularly in Malolos City, as Bulacan honors its pivotal role in the nation’s history.
