President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. indicated that PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil’s tenure might be extended, expressing concerns about ensuring stability for the upcoming 2025 elections.
During an interview in Taguig City on Monday, Marcos said that replacing the police chief in the midst of the campaign season and ahead of the upcoming elections could potentially undermine the country’s stability.
"There is a strong argument that it would not be good for stability, especially to change [the] Chief PNP in the middle of a campaign period and then approaching an election period," Marcos explained.
"So pinag-aaralan namin but I think that is probably a very strong argument to keep him on. At the very least, until after the elections," he added.
