The chief of the Makati City Police Station and a substation commander were dismissed from their posts following an alleged shooting incident that ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro claimed to have witnessed while traveling on the night of December 11.
"Pending investigation, the Chief of police of Makati City Police Station, the Police Commander of Sub-Station 6 and the personnel directly involved in the incident will be relieved from their posts to pave way to an impartial inquiry on the matter," the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said in a statement on Thursday.
During her manifestation at the Quad-Committee hearing held yesterday, Castro called for an investigation into the incident.
She expressed concern that she may have been the intended target of the shooting, possibly as an attempt to intimidate her due to her allegations against the previous Duterte administration.
The lawmaker recalled seeing a police car ahead of them on the road, followed by a motorcycle. Shortly after, two officers exited the vehicle and ran after the motorcycle. She said the motorcycle passed in front of them, then circled behind their vehicle, before one of the officers suddenly fired at the motorcyclist.
According to Castro, the shooting took place at approximately 11 p.m. in BGC, Taguig. She stressed that the local police station should have already filed a report on the incident.
In contrast to Castro's account, the NCRPO reported that the incident took place on Makati Avenue, Makati City, not in BGC, Taguig City.
Moreover, the NCRPO assured that investigators are on the ground to gather details of the incident, including determining why no report was filed at the Makati City Police Station regarding the matter.
The NCRPO also assured the public, particularly Rep. France Castro, that it will thoroughly investigate the incident.
Furthermore, if any members of the NCRPO are found to have violated policies, they will face appropriate penalties.
