A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the province of Surigao del Sur at 6:22 AM on Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The quake’s epicenter was located at coordinates 08.10°N, 127.01°E, approximately 66 kilometers north-northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
It occurred at a depth of 9 kilometers and was strongly felt along the coast of Lingig.

At 12:15 PM on the same day, an aftershock was recorded at coordinates 08.07°N, 126.75°E, 37 km north-northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 2.4, a depth of 16 kilometers, and was of tectonic origin.
