Magnitude 6.8 earthquake strikes Cagwait, Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, on early Monday morning, Dec. 4, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHILVOCS 5:40 a.m. report said that the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 3:49 a.m.
The earthquake has a depth of 1 kilometer.

PHIVOLCS said there is no damage expected from the earthquake but aftershocks may occur.
On Saturday evening, Dec. 2, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
As of 5 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4,PHIVOLCS has recorded 1,583 aftershocks with magnitudes ranging up to 6.6.
