Magnitude 5.9 quake hits San Francisco, Southern Leyte

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake jolted San Francisco, Southern Leyte, at 7:39 AM today, January 23.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake originated from tectonic movements and had a depth of 10 kilometers.
The following instrumental intensities were recorded in different areas:
- Intensity V: Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte
- Intensity IV: Hinunangan and Maasin, Southern Leyte
- Intensity III: Palo, Dulag, Ormoc City, and Carigara, Leyte
PHIVOLCS has warned of possible aftershocks and structural damage.
