A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck east of Tarragona, Davao Oriental, at noon on Sunday, January 5, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In its bulletin, PHIVOLCS reported that the earthquake occurred at 5:16 a.m. with a depth of 127 kilometers. The quake was tectonic in origin.

Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS stated that no damage is expected, but aftershocks may occur.

At the same time, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit Governor Generoso in the same province. This earthquake had a depth of 116 kilometers and was also tectonic in origin.
