A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental and San Policarpo in Eastern Samar early Friday, according to PHIVOLCS.

Based on PHIVOLCS monitoring, the earthquake hit Sarangani Island in the Municipality of Sarangani at 12:51 a.m. It was of tectonic origin with a depth of 10 kilometers. However, no damage or aftershocks are expected, PHIVOLCS reported.

Later, an earthquake of the same magnitude also struck San Policarpo at 3:22 a.m. It was also tectonic in origin, with a depth of 17 kilometers.

No damage is expected, but aftershocks may occur.
