A magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur on Wednesday evening, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The state seismologist said the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin and had 10 kilometer depth, occurred at 8:31 AM.
The epicenter of the quake was located 48 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
Reported intensities are as follows:
- Intensity V: City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR
- Intensity III: Cagwait, SURIGAO DEL SUR
"This is an aftershock of the 2023 December 2 Mw7.4 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event," the PHIVOLCS said.
The state seismologist said no aftershocks were expected, but damage from the latest quake was likely.
