Magnitude 5.6 quake jolts Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.6 quake jolted Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Thursday, February 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The earthquake occurred at 08:10 in the morning and its epicenter was located East of Hinatuan.
PHIVOLCS said the earthquake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.
"This is an aftershock of the 2023 December 2 Mw7.4 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event," the state seismologist said.

Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS said there is no expected damage and aftershocks.
