Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Tuesday night, Dec. 12, according to the Philipiine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Based on PHIVOLCS' bulletin, the earthquake occurred at 9:58 p.m, and its epicenter was located 64 kilometers east of the town of Hinatuan.
It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
According to the state seismologist, the quake was an aftershock of the powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Surigao del Sur on December 2.
Reported intensities were felt in the following areas:
- Intensity V- Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity III - Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity II - Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Tandag and Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity I - City of Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte
Meanwhile, no damage or aftershocks were expected.
