The Magdalo group on Monday, Nov. 13, welcomed the court decision to grant the bail of former Senator Leila de Lima in her third and last illegal drug case, calling this as "biggest step in her quest for justice and redemption."
"The Magdalo group welcomes the release of former Senator Leila de Lima from detention for almost seven years. This is the biggest step in her quest for justice and redemption," Former Senator and Magdalo National Chairman Antonio Trillanes IV said in a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
He stressed that "the whole world will now know how" former President Rodrigo Duterte "misused and abused power to persecute those who dared stand up to his murderous regime."
"Mabuhay ka, Sen. Leila! #Leilaya" Trillanes said.
Based on Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 206 ruling penned by presiding Judge Gener Gito, the former Senator's motion for bail is granted.
"Thus, the prosecution is hereby given a period of five (5) days from today within which to complete the submission of the prosecution's documentary exhibits and schedule the case for remarking on November 23, 2023 at 2:00 o'clock in the aftenoon," the order reads.
The bail bond is set at P300,000, according to RH Christian Maño's report.
Legal counsel Filibon Tacardon told international media organization Reuters that de Lima will be "released hopefully today."
