The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has been hailed as Asia's best airport at the Routes Asia 2023 Awards in Chiang Mai, Thailand held on February 15.
In a Facebook post, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that Routes Asia awarded MCIA as Asia's Best Airport in Asia in Airport and Destination Marketing in the “Under 5M Passengers Category”.
"Thank you, MCIA! Thank you all for making our MCIA one of the very best in Asia!" DOTr captioned.
The MCIA won over 200 other airports in the said category.
Among the MCIA officials who received the award is Atty. Tani-Angub Gaviola, Naomi Arcayan, and Elmar Tagaloguin; GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Aines Liboro, Ivan Romano, and Inaki Ponio; and Jemar Nietes.
According to Routes Asia, the MCIA's operator GMCAC "have always taken two-pronged approach to route development: marketing to create supply and destination marketing to ensure the sustainability of its airline partners' presence and address the demand for air services."

Singapore Changi Airport was named as the Overall Winner in Routes Asia 2023 while Perth Airport bagged the Best Airport under the "5-10 Million Passengers" category.
The Routes Asia 2023 Awards recognizes the partnerships between airlines, airports and the destinations they serve.
