The National Grid Corporations of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert on Monday, May 13, due to a thin power supply.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will be placed from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
"5 plants have been on forced outage since 2023, 5 between January and March 2024, and 10 between April and May 2024; while 4 others are running on derated capacities, for a total of 2,050.5MW unavailable to the grid," the advisory reads.

The Luzon grid has an available capacity of 14,640MW and a peak demand of 13,446MW.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
