Chinese singer Lucas has officially departed from K-pop boy group Neo Culture Technology (NCT) and its subunit WayV after almost two years of hiatus, his music label SM Entertainment announced on Wednesday.
In a statement released, SM Entertainment said they made a mutual decision with Lucas, whose real name Huang Xu-xi/ Wong Yuk-hei, to leave the group to pursue a solo career.
"Lucas is planning on showing his performances through a wide variety of individual works from now on," it said.
SM Entertainment asked its fans and supporters for their "understanding and continuous support" of the 24-year-old singer.
"[T]his was a decision taken after much consideration of both the members and all the fans who supported," it added.

Meanwhile, Lucas confirmed that he parted ways from NCT and WayV through a handwritten letter posted on his Instagram account.
"I sincerely feel sorry for the members, and it is with a heavy heart that I leave behind a long-standing friendship. It has been nearly 8 years since I first joined the members, and I am deeply grateful for their care and support," he said.
"I hope that the members will remember me as Huang Xuxi, not just Lucas," Lucas added.
The 24-year-old K-pop idol said he believes his exit from the groups is "the right decision for the good of all."
He thanked the fans who constantly supported him.

In 2021, Lucas halted his activities with NCT and WayV after his past romantic relationships accused him of cheating, gaslighting, and sexual assault.
Lucas then released a statement apologizing for his past behavior and said he would take a break to reflect.
